A day in Saint Martin

A day in Saint Martin

If you or someone you know will be visiting Saint Martin and would like to see and do as much as possible with little time to spare, then look no further because we have put together a day’s worth of must do activities while in Saint Martin.

Breakfast in Marigot

Start your day off by having breakfast on Marigot’s waterfront at one of the many local restaurants. Ask for local delights such as Johnny Cakes which is a local fried or baked bread which is accompanied usually by cheese, salt-fish, local fried fish and ham. For an even more hearty and filling breakfast, it is sometimes possible to have johnny cakes served with poultry.

Shopping Mall

After breakfast, walk off those extra calories by visiting the West Indies Shopping Mall which is is just a stone’s throw from the Marigot waterfront. There are many high street brands to chose from but if you are looking to collect gifts and souvenirs to take back home, there is an outdoor market which offers a wide range of local arts and crafts and visitor souvenirs to chose from.

Scenery and Landscape

While strolling through Marigot, be sure to stop from time to time to take in the scenery and landscape as Marigot has a very French Creole architecture. The town is often fairly quiet so stopping for a photo op here and there will not be a hassle. One of the most renown backdrops for the perfect picture could be seen atop Fort Louis, a national historical monument which offers the most breath taking aerial views of the quaint town of Marigot.

Food and activities

In the afternoon, head over to Orient beach and partake in adventurous water-sports. Rent a jet ski and take to the waters for a fun filled adventure. Once you have had great fun in the sun, grab a drink or a quick brunch in Orient beach at one of the many beach bars and restaurants in the area.
Alternatively, if you prefer less physically challenging yet fulfilling activities you can visit Grand Case which is another nearby town. Here, you can have a unique perfume making experience and create your own scent to take with you as a souvenir. You can later stop by the beach which is in walking distance and enjoy the scenery of planes landing on the nearby Esperance airport in Grand Case.
There is no shortage of food spots on the island and noticeably in Grand Case, which is renown regionally and internationally for its gastronomy as the main street is lined with restaurants so you will be spoiled for choice. You can enjoy anything from fine French dining to a hearty local meal at the Lolo’s which offer fish, barbecued chicken and ribs with all the local trimmings.

To round off your day with a fun night out on the town and to be able to experience the best of both worlds in one day, head over to the Dutch side of the island which is only a few minutes drive away. Simpson Bay and Maho are great locations to enjoy Saint Martin night life in true island style as many locals and visitors flock to these popular villages for a great night out. Both villages also boast international cuisine so you will always find your heart’s pleasure.
Saint Martin has always been known as one of the more popular destinations in the Caribbean because of its shared French and Dutch identity but also for warmly welcoming visitors and giving them a memorable and unique stay.
The island continues to do just that, even after the storm -hurricane Irma- the island is bouncing back fairly quickly and many of the main attractions are already up and running so visitors will have loads to see and do once they get here.
There you have it, a fun-filled day already planned out for your own convenience, so what are you waiting for? Visit the Friendly Island and get a chance to experience the best of both worlds in this unique Caribbean destination.

  1. For those of us that can’t walk a great distance is there an easy way for us to move about the island? Golf Carts, Uber, Taxi?
    Thank you,
    Sue Ellen

    1. The best way to move around the island would be to rent a vehicule (car or scooter) or to use our taxis services. Uber does not operate in Saint-Martin
